What a weekend!
A bunch of us headed for Montreal this past weekend to witness some of Canada’s greatest roller derby stars take each other on in the battle for La Bête – the Beast of the East! It’s taken a while to post about it because it’s taken a while to recover from it! The energy was high, the competition was fierce, and the beeramids were tall — with 27 short games crammed into one crazy weekend, the action never stopped for long! The championship game was one of the most dramatic any of us had seen, with Rideau Valley’s Slaughter Daughters making a heart-stopping comeback in the final seconds of the final jam against Toronto’s Gore Gore Rollergirls to win 88-85. Outside of the arena, Kingston Derby Girls could be seen all over the city, enjoying challah French toast at Beauty’s on Mont-Royal in the morning … and karaokeing and bucking on the mechanical bull at Cafe Serge into the wee hours.
Check out the Derby Nerd’s coverage of the tournament here.
Congratulations on your big win, Slaughter Daughters! Thanks for an amazing weekend, Montreal — we’ll see you next year!
